Cher Lloyd gets butterflies as she unveils her new - and eighth - tattoo on Twitter

By Georgina Littlejohn

New look: Cher Lloyd unveiled her new butterflies tattoo on Twitter this weekend - and new hair extensions in Miami last week

She already has an assortment of tattoos scattered across her person.

But Cher Lloyd clearly thought that seven was just not enough as she unveiled a new inking this weekend.

The X Factor contestant showed off some new designs on her right arm, an extension of one she already had.

The 17-year-old posted a black and white photo on her Twitter page of her arm, which had been inked with five butterflies.

They were joined by a question mark and a peace sign, as she added to the bird carrying a ribbon that she already had.

On the ribbon is the word 'Boo', a tribute to her late uncle Edward 'Boo Boo' Smith, who died last September after being tricked into taking a heroin substitute.

She had the design inked two months ago and also had an empty birdcage on her left arm to look as though the bird had flown free from it when she put her arms together.

An inquest in December heard how Mr Smith, 34, was found dead in his Malvern, Worcestershire home after being 'deceived' into taking a lethal dose of methadone.

Cher wrote on her Twitter: 'Happy birthday Uncle Boo, missing you. New tattoo. Xxxx.'

In an interview last year, Lloyd admitted: 'I’m not even old enough to have a tattoo, but I have three. I know it’s naughty.'

She also noted Cowell - who has signed her to his Syco label - doesn't approve of her body art: 'Even though Simon doesn't approve of tattoos the thing is I'm my own person and think it'd be cool to get another one.'

Paying tribute: Cher had a bird flying from a cage done in March, which she added the butterflies to

Cher already has a bow on her back, musical note on her left hand and Spanish phrase on her right arm which reads Bolsillo Lleno De Suenos' - which means 'pocketful of dreams'

In January, she then got song lyrics on her left arm - 'All That You Have Is Your Soul' - lyrics from a Tracy Chapman song of the same name, and an image of a large diamond on her right hand

The red has gone: Cher has got rid of her fiery locks for a more sophisticated colour

Tattoo fan: Cher also has a diamond on her right hand and song lyrics on her left arm

Cher also unveiled a new hairstyle as she landed in Miami last week, where she had the tattoo done and where she is believed to be working on her debut album.

The long brown hair extensions come a month after she ditched her fiery red locks for a sleek dark bob, which she added too with caramel and blond extensions.

More etchings: She also has a musical note on her left hand and a Spanish phrase on her right forearm

Not enough: She even has a bow inked on her lower back

Unmasked, the tattooed freak who's become Lady Gaga's new best friend (but it turns out he's really a mummy's boy)

By Fiona Roberts

Gruesome look: Rick Genest, also known as Zombie Boy, shot to fame when he appeared in the music video for Born This Way with Lady Gaga

Covered in skeletal tattoos to make his body resemble a decomposing corpse, Lady Gaga's latest video co-star probably isn't the kind of man you'd take home to meet your parents.

The mysterious 25-year-old has shot to fame after displaying his macabre body art in Gaga's video for Born This Way.

But MailOnline can reveal the man behind the tattoos - Rick Genest, a Canadian model known as Zombie Boy - is a doting son who always texts his mum back.

Grim: Genest looks macabre - but is in fact a good son who always texts his mother back

Muse: Genest walked alongside Lady Gaga at Formichetti's debut catwalk show for Thierry Mugler last week

His mother Catheryne today described her son as a 'quiet, loving boy', who waited until he was 16 to have his first tattoo out of respect for his parents.

Genest, whose entire head and torso are covered in gory tattoos, seemed to come from nowhere - and it turns out Nicola Formichetti, Gaga's stylist, quite literally plucked him from obscurity.

Until January he was living on the streets of Montreal, where he was living as a 'bum', doing everything from window-cleaning to performing as a circus freak to pay for his next tattoo.

Now bilingual Genest is a catwalk star, modelling Thierry Mugler's latest collection for Paris Fashion Week.

Blank canvas: Rick Genest, left, is pictured here before he began transforming his face and body with tattoos to make him look like a decomposing corpse

Rotting away: Somehow Genest makes Lady Gaga look conservative

The self-described 'punk' is a well-known figure in the Quebec city, where he spent three or four years slowly inking his body, spending at least $7,000 on tattoos.

In 2006, he told Bizarre magazine his tattoos were 'about the human body as a decomposing corpse – the art of a rotting cadaver. It’s also a tribute to horror movies, which I love.'

He has 20,000 fans on his Facebook page - where Formichetti, Thierry Mugler's new creative director, first found him - and is a popular figure in the city's underground scene.

He grew up and went to school in Chateauguay, a Montreal suburb, and left home at 17 after he finished high school.

Good big brother: Genest also looks out for his younger brother and sister, his mother says

Art: Genest is using his entire body as a canvas

Despite his unconventional lifestyle, his mother said she is proud of her son - and he always replies to her text messages, even now he is leading a glamorous life on the catwalks of Europe.

His mother said: 'He's doing what he wants to do. He's always been a very artistic person and a good student - he's so artistic.

'People go their own way. Rick has lived his own way by choice.'

Mrs Genest, 47, called her son as 'unique', and said he is a 'fantastic' brother to his two younger siblings, who are 20 and 22.

They have taken more conventional routes - his brother is at university and his sister works in a hospital. Mrs Genest describes herself and her husband Roc as 'very conservative', but said they have accepted their son for who he is.

'Loving boy': His mother Catheryne said she is proud of her son Rick, who she described as a 'unique child'

She said: 'Rick will always be himself. He's very loving to his family, and faithful to his friends. His grandparents love him very much, he has been to family weddings, everybody has always accepted him as himself.'

'Within the family he is a very loving boy, he's very respectful to us.

She said: 'At stores, people will stop and look, but he's never been embarrassed by his tattoos. He's a quiet boy.'

But she says there are two sides to every story - and is quite happy for him to have a very different image outside the home.

Genest waited until he was 16 to have his first tattoo, but his mother said they were always his 'passion'.

Most of his designs were inked by Montreal tattoo artist Frank Lewis, who said Genest first came to him when he was 21.

Circus freak: Rick Genest used to lie on a bed of nails as part of an act in Montreal
They work through the designs together, then Mr Lewis traces an outline in marker and fills it in free-hand. Each session takes between two and four hours.

According to Mr Lewis, when Genest first asked him to tattoo his face, he said no - but then he went to another artist and Mr Lewis had to fix it for him.

He said Genest is entirely tattooed from the waist up. The most painful part was the black inking on his nose.

But Genest is not done yet. He wants to extend his gruesome body art down his legs, too - and in an interview in January said he had even had his tongue slit, to make him look like a reptile.

But talking to his mother, it seems whatever he does, Genest will still be welcomed home.

She said: 'He's not a bad boy at all. He is unique and we love him the way he is.'

Full body skeletal tattoo, beds of nails and calling himself 'Zombie Boy'... meet Lady Gaga's new best friend

By Daily Mail Reporter

Copycat: Gaga appears alongside 'Zombie Boy' Rick Genest in her new music video Born This Way

It takes a pretty unusual person to make Lady Gaga look downright conservative.

But the current darling of the fashion and music world, Rick Genest, aka Zombie Boy, has done just that.

The Montreal-native burst on to the scene after Gaga's stylist Nicole Formichetti discovered the tattooed model on Facebook, where he has over 20,000 fans.

Formichetti, the new Creative Director for designer Thierry Mugler, quickly snapped Genest up as his muse.

He appears alongside Gaga in the video for her new single Born this Way, and for once, the singer is the style follower, copying his skeletal body art with make-up.

He also starred in Formichetti's debut runway show for the fashion house last week in Paris.

'Freak show': Genest says he considers himself 'a sexual performer'

Fashion world darling: The Montreal-native is muse to Gaga's stylist Nicola Formichetti after the designer discovered him on Facebook

His rise from obscurity to fame has been sudden, and he appears as surprised as anyone else.

Backstage at the Theirry Mugler show at Paris Fashion Week, he told New York fashion bible WWD, 'I’m super privileged.'

He describes himself as a 'sexual performer,' and says, not surprisingly: 'I like the whole freak-show atmosphere,' saying his antics include the usual beds of nails.

And Rick has also proved a hit with the ladies, with scores of Fashion Week attendees lining up to have their picture taken with the tattooed wonder.

The soft-spoken model told Grazia this week: 'When I was a kid I fell in love with zombies and wanted to become one.

'The closest thing I could get to becoming a zombie was to get tattooed like one.'

He adds: 'I'm so used to them now that I don't see them anymore.'

Daddy's girl: Cher Lloyd shows off her EIGHTH inking - a tribute to her father

By Sarah Fitzmaurice

Daddy's girl: Cher Lloyd paid tribute to her father with her new tattoo the word Daddy and a heart on her right hand

Just last week she showed off her sixth and seventh tattoos in tribute to her late uncle, but Cher Lloyd has inked her body yet again – this time with the word Daddy and a pink heart etched onto her right hand.

The X Factor singer showed off her eighth tattoo as she took to the stage at Wembley Arena last week and the homage to her father Darren was clearly visible.

The young diva took to the stage with her bright red hair styled into a large quaff and wore a crystal-embellished black jacket, a bright pink bow tied around her waist, a frilly black skirt and leather trousers.

At 17-years-old she is still under the legal age to have a tattoo although she now has quite a collection of different designs all over her body.

The teenage singer has not left her mother Diane out from her permanent tributes and she has the lyrics from a Tracy Chapman All That I have Is Your Soul song, which is her mother’s favourite track, on her left arm.

Cher also has a bird carrying a ribbon and a birdcage on her forearms in memory of her uncle Edward 'Boo Boo' Smith, who died last September after being tricked into taking a heroin substitute.

On stage: Cher performed in a black and pink outfit with her red hair styled into a huge quiff. The 17-year-old now has eight tattoos

The singer has a diamond on her right hand as well as lyrics taken from Jay Z and Alicia Keys duet Empire State Of Mind.

'Bolsillo Lleno De Suenos' - which means 'pocketful of dreams' in Spanish - is written along her right arm.

Before appearing on the talent show Cher already had a bow at the base of her back and a musical note on her left hand – similar to mentor Cheryl Cole’s own tattoo.

Paying tribute: Cher posted a photo of her tattoo tribute to her uncle - a bird flying from a cage - on her Twitter page

In an interview last year, Lloyd admitted she loved the comparisons between her and her mentor Cole - who have similar tattoos on their hands.

Lloyd said: 'I admire her fashion, her looks and I even have a tattoo of a musical note like hers on my hand.

'I’m not even old enough to have a tattoo, but I have three. I know it’s naughty.'

She also noted Cowell - who has signed her to his Syco label - doesn't approve of her body art: 'Even though Simon doesn't approve of tattoos the thing is I'm my own person and think it'd be cool to get another one.'
